Compared to last week: Feeder steers over 750lbs 5.00-10.00 lower. There were no number 1 cattle under 750lbs that sold on Wednesday. All 600-700lbs steers sold Tuesday at 5.00-10.00 higher. Feeder heifers steady to 5.00 lower. Buyers described the market as being all over the place. Good-quality cattle would have sold at steady money, but quality was limited throughout the sale. Overall buyers were cautious and showed very little aggression on anything today. Steer calves over 500lbs 5.00-10.00 higher, under 500lbs steady. Heifer calves not enough comparables either this week or last week to set a trend but a firm undertone noted. The calf market held together very well on Tuesday despite several negative factors: CME cattle futures closed in the red Tuesday, quality was mostly plain, and hot and dry conditions continue with little relief in sight. Calf buyers remained surprisingly positive and demand held up better than expected.
