Reporter comment USDA

As filed

The last bred cow and pair sale was three weeks ago with this week's large supply selling with a higher undertone. Brutal dryness continues across the trade area and ranchers and cattlemen have made a tough decision to start selling off the older cow/calf pairs and some bred cows. Pasture and range conditions for this week per NASS in Nebraska is at 79% poor to very poor, WY at 70% and SD comes in at 42%. However, the SW corner of of South Dakota is in a extreme drought category. Quite a few of the lots of cattle are going to out of state buyers as those states are improving their genetic base and have some green grass for grazing. Nice crowd of buyers on the seats along with active internet buying.
