Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week: Feeder steers steady to 5.00 lower, feeder heifers steady to firm. Very good demand remains on all weights of steers and heifers, however best demand was centered on those cattle that can fit backgrounding programs and for replacement quality heifers, of which there were many on offer. The market for replacement heifers was incredibly active as there is much optimism amongst cow/calf producers. Cattle feeders are feeling good too, with cash fed cattle last week topping at 241.00, but reports of 237.00-238.00 today and with cattle futures down 5.00 to 7.00, the market wasn't as sparky as last week. Several long strings of heavier steers and heifers, offered in full loads and, while the lighter cattle was mostly a package trade as large bunches of those kinds become harder to find. Flesh conditions light to moderate overall. Next reported feeder cattle auction will be Feb. 12, 2026.
