Compared to last week: Steer calves under 450 lbs 5.00 to 10.00 higher, instances to 20.00 higher on 350-400 lbs, over 450 lbs steady to 5.00 higher. Heifer calves steady to 5.00 higher, instances to 10.00 higher on 550-600 lbs. Yearling steers not tested, yearling heifers sold with higher undertones on a light offering. Very good demand for this large calf offering, many buyers on the seats actively and aggressively bidding. A rally in the Live Cattle contracts, with Oct just above 189.00 and April back up to 190.00, along with cash fed cattle at 192.00 created a very active market at the auction. Yearling operators are wanting to get these light cattle bought while they are available and are willing to chase the market quiet a long ways to secure the cattle they need. Cattle feeders are feeling optimistic as well as the futures are following the cash markets higher. Flesh condition was a tick heavier at times, but there was great interest in those heavier calves that could reach finished weights by April. Next reported sale will be Oct 31, 2024 expecting 5,000 calves.
