Compared to two weeks ago: Steer calves under 500 lbs 10.00 to 20.00 lower, instances to 30.00 lower, over 500 lbs steady to 5.00 higher, except 550-600 lbs 2.00 to 5.00 lower, and steers over 700 lbs 10.00 lower. Heifer calves 3.00 to 8.00 higher. A very large offering of high quality, very attractive, light fleshed steers and heifers with many long strings and full loads as well as plenty of smaller packages to piece loads together. The market was pretty active, especially considering the belly flop the cattle futures complex has performed since the last sale two weeks ago. Most of the cattle were fully preconditioned, some weaned, those cattle without a fall shot didn't see much discount. Hide color shows the most discount as buyers want their cattle uniformly black hided. Demand is still the best for light weight cattle to make yearlings of, but those buyers have had to re-evaluate their approach to the market as the summer months of the Feeder Cattle futures contracts have changed so drastically. Improved demand for heifers this week. The market moved along at a good pace as auctioneers were able to find bids without having to back up and beg to get cattle started, as it seems cattle buyers kind of shrugged off the lower futures today.
