Compared to last sale (8-11-26): Feeder steers were all too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Feeder heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Quality this week was mostly average to attractive. Demand for feeders was mostly light. CME positions have fallen sharply since last sale and buyers adjusted prices to match lower expected break evens. CME positions were lower today as well which caused buyers to pause as they bid on offerings. Demand for light weight yearlings was stronger than demand for heavy weight yearlings as buyers attempt to back up marketing dates. Light weight yearlings were also in lighter flesh making these offerings more attractive to buyers. Market activity was slow to moderate with a small buyer pool noticed. Weigh up cows sold on light to moderate demand and offerings. Feeding cow demand was mostly light this week as buyers cite uncertainty for fed cow prices going into fall. Many private feeders worry of the impact additional meat imports will have on the fed cow market and adjusted sell prices reflected these uncertainties. Feeding cows sold mostly 10.00-15.00 lower. Cow quality was mostly average this week. Slaughter cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Slaughter bulls sold mostly 15.00-20.00 lower. Demand for slaughter bulls was light. Feeding bull demand was very light and private buyers sidelined themselves and allowed packers to buy all bulls lower. Bull quality was mostly plain to average this week. Most bulls continue to come off pasture and range after breeding season. Yields continue to be mostly average to below average as a result. Weigh up conditions were mixed today with both full and empty cows and bulls noticed. Young age cows were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. A few sets of bred cows were seen this week. Demand for bred offerings was light to moderate. Very little premium was seen for bred cows this sale as buyers weight the economics of feeding and maintaining cows from now until spring calving.
