Compared to last week (2-03-26): 550-699 lbs steers offered the best test this week selling mostly 5.00-10.00 higher in a narrow comparison. All other weights of steers were to lightly tested to develop a full market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed. 500-649 lbs heifers offered the best test this week selling mostly steady to 5.00 higher. Demand for all feeders was good to very good on light to moderate offerings. Demand for light weight cattle suitable to develop into yearlings was mostly very good again this week. Buyers were willing to take steers up to 700 lbs to grass this week as flesh conditions were mostly light. Quality this week was average to attractive. Most cattle were offered in moderate to large size groups this week with a few load lots noticed. Heifer demand was very good as feeders and ranchers looking for replacements showed very good demand for heifers 600 lbs and heavier. CME positions moved higher to start the day before slipping lower. However, demand for feeder cattle remains very good as buyers continue to show need for all weights of cattle. Order buyers buying for packers pushed heavy weight cattle higher as they competed with private feeders over attractive offerings. Market activity was mostly active this week with a larger buyer pool noticed compared to last week. Weigh up cows sold on moderate to good demand for light offerings. Feeding demand continues to drive the cow market as buyers all showed good to very good demand for high quality cows to feed. Feeding cows sold mostly steady in a very narrow comparison. Cow quality this week was average and overall not as attractive as last weeks offering. Slaughter cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed on all offerings. Feeding buyers showed little to no interest in blemished cows this week which allowed packers to buy slaughter cows lower. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to weak undertones were noticed. Very few bulls feeding type bulls were seen this week. Young age cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to higher undertones were noticed. Quality this week was mostly average. A large offering of bred cows were seen this week. Demand for bred cows was very good. Quality was average to very attractive with a few large consignments off dispersions. The stands were filled with ranchers and they showed very good demand for all bred cow offerings.
