Compared to last week: Feeder cattle were scarcely tested this week, thus no trend can be established. Demand for feeder cattle was mostly light to moderate for very light offerings. Quality was mostly plain to average. Several sets of fall calves were seen this week, demand for these offerings was light to moderate. Pasture and range continues to be in mostly good condition and most yearlings will not be marketed until late summer. Market activity this week was mostly slow to moderate. Weigh up cows comprised most of the offering today. Slaughter cows sold on good to very good demand. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady to 1.00 lower on boning and breaking cows. Lean cows sold 2.00-3.00 higher. Demand from western packers remains very good and continues to support slaughter cow prices here in Montana. Weigh up conditions were mostly average to below average this week and mostly poorer than last week. Cow quality was average this week and overall not as attractive as last week. Feeding cows sold mostly 1.00-3.00 lower, with both quality and weigh conditions impacting buying decisions. Slaughter bulls sold steady to 2.00 higher. Young age cows were too lightly tested last week to develop any market trend. Quality was mostly average this week. Demand remains mostly good.
