Compared to last week: All feeder cattle were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed on both steers and heifers calves. No trend can be made on yearling steers, yearling heifers under 850 lbs sold with lower undertones, while over 850 lbs sold with steady to firm undertones. Calf quality this week was very attractive, yearling quality was average to very attractive. Several load lots of calves were seen this week. One very attractive load lot of yearling heifers was on offer this week. All load lots were met with very good demand. CME positions finally sold higher after nearly two weeks of lower movement. Triple digit gains were seen on all contracts today as feeders settled 2.575-3.45 higher on the September-April 22' contracts. Demand for calves under 400 lbs for steers and under 380 lbs for heifers was very good. These offerings were all purchased as grass cattle for this winters wheat pasture. Market activity was mostly active this week. Weigh up cows sold on mostly moderate to good demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Replacement and feeding cow buyers both showed good demand for cows this week. As a result, packers were forced to pay higher money for cows in order to secure offerings. Slaughter cows sold 1.00-3.00 higher on all offerings. Cows purchased specifically for feed sold generally steady on a lower quality offering. Many cows were purchased to return to the county to test for bred cows. Some of these cows were purchased to turn out on corn stalks, be fed silage in the corn belt or moved south to greener pastures for winter. Demand for all replacement cows was good to very good. Young age open cows suitable to rebreed sold mostly 5.00 higher. Demand for these offerings was good.
