This is the first Monday sale of the fall. All feeder cattle were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Demand for feeder cattle was mostly light to moderate for light offerings. Quality this week was mostly plain. Most feeders were offered in small packages with many singles noticed. Market activity was mostly moderate. Weigh up cows sold on moderate to good demand for light to moderate offerings. Cow quality this week was mixed from plain to attractive. Feeding cows sold with mostly moderate to good demand. American packers were more active this sale as they bid aggressively against Canadian buyers buying feeding cows to ship north. The last sale with cows was on October 1st so all sale comparisons are to that sale. Feeding cows sold mostly steady to 3.00 higher on breaking and boning cows, lean flesh cows sold 5.00-8.00 higher. Farmer feeders were much more active as they purchased lean cows which will gain quickly when put on feed. Weigh up conditions were mostly average today. Slaughter cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. Very few cows were purchased for immediate harvest this week as feeding buyers pushed most lame and blemished cows over slaughter cow orders. Slaughter bulls sold steady to firm on a higher yielding offering. Many bulls have been left out on range and have fleshed up on green fall grass. Yields have improved over the past few weeks as a result. Feeding bulls sold with higher undertones in a narrow comparison. Quality was mostly average to attractive this week. Young age cows suitable to feed or rebreed sold on moderate to good demand. Quality this week was mostly average. Steady to higher undertones were noticed.
