Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold mostly steady. Slaughter cows sold steady to 2.00 higher. The supply of feeders was light to moderate and pretty typical of a late summer run with a mixture of a few decent sized drafts, but mostly smaller drafts of odds and ends. Although conditions have gotten better over the last few weeks many of the calves are still showing signs of the dry summer and in fairly thin condition. Buyers prefer this rather than extra flesh however and most of the offering was also weaned and vaccinated as producers did their part to not leave anything on the table. Recent rains have greened the grass back up and a few farmers in the area have pulled hay equipment back out eager to add a few bales of hay to the inventory as there is still a little window of time before they will climb in the combines and start shelling corn.
