Compared to last week, steers and heifers under 650 lbs traded 5.00-9.00 lower and 350-450 lb heifers sold sharply lower on lighter demand. No comparable sales of heavier weights for a price trend. A quality run of calves was offered with most weighing 350-625 lbs and demand was good, but the recent downward trend to the market gave buyers no choice but to buy cattle at lower prices to try to pencil in a profit. Last weeks lower fat cattle trade has driven futures down and taken some optimism out of the market. Most of the calves were in moderate to moderate plus flesh with some consignments right off the cow and few thin cattle were offered. Supply was moderate to heavy.
