A large crowd was on hand for Saturday's Special Bred Heifer and Cow Sale at Unionville Livestock. This annual sale highlights the work of local reputation producers, the Jeff Valentine family, consigning over 400 head of black 1st calf heifers. These heifers originated from the Vermillion Ranch in Montana and were developed on the green hills of North Missouri. Over half of these heifers were bred AI with a projected calving date of February 22, with the balance bull bred and calving between March 3 and April 7. Heifers were sorted and sold according to calving date and fetal sex in gate cut lots of 5 or more head. These heifers were of very moderate frame without a lot of extra condition and with an excellent disposition. Several groups of bred cows were also on offer as well as one large consignment of pairs, mostly young to running aged cows with a lot of life and productivity left. Supply heavy, demand moderate to good.
