No recent price comparison, however a higher undertone noted. Demand was good on a moderate to heavy supply. The highlight of the sale consisted of 3 loads of 884 lbs Steers at 135.60 and the last draft load of 940 lbs Steers at 135.25.

This is the last sale reported for the St Joseph Stockyards by the USDA-AMS Livestock, Poultry Grain Market News Division. The stockyards was open along the rails in St Joseph, MO from 1887-2021; a span of 134 years. The location has been a valued and trusted source for many types of stock throughout its mainstay in the livestock industry and was the last of the “river markets” that had been in existence. Trading on the bricks happened for many years at the stockyards; a true testament to the negotiating skills of talented commission agents. As the stockyards grew and aged, an auction ring was built and the seasoned firms believed that facility would be used only for hay storage. However, price discovery was mostly moved to that auction mentality in the last few decades where many buyers of stock could bid on stock in a very public way. Wednesday, May 19, 2021 was a very sad day in the south end of St Joseph with six auctioneers (with 2 of them being previous past World Champion Auctioneers) taking their turn at the microphone to trade stock off in a snappy and brisk fashion. So long to the St Joseph Stockyards.
