Compared to last Wednesday, feeder steers and heifers 2.00-6.00 higher. Slaughter cows 2.00-3.00 higher. Demand good. Supply heavy. Lots of reputation consignments this week with the front end fall calves moving in fairly large numbers now. Good buyer attendance along with a general advance in the feeder market made it a pretty good week to merchandise a calf crop. Beef cutout values likely began their long descent Wednesday afternoon, the pace of which will be determined by the demand erosion of high prices and the speed at which we can get back to a more normal harvest rate. Fed cattle trade is taking place at 110.00-115.00/cwt again this week, figures that may be hard to maintain as the cutout picks up speed in the wrong direction.
