There was a large crowd on hand for the Show-Me-Select Replacement heifer sale at JRS. The sale was sponsored by Missouri Show-MeSelect Replacement Heifers Inc., Division of Animal Sciences, Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Association in Cooperation with University Extension, Commercial Agriculture Program, MU Veterinary Medicine, Missouri Cattlemen's Association and the Missouri Department of Agriculture. All heifers had met minimum standards for reproductive soundness, pelvic size, body condition and weight. A strict immunization program had been followed including Brucellosis calf-hood vaccination and tested negative for PI BVD. Heifers were bred to bulls meeting strict calving ease or birth weight EPD's. Many were synchronized and artificially bred. projected calving dates were given and all heifers preg checked within 30 days of the sale. The offering was screened for blemishes, muscle, frame and body condition score, and disposition by a screening committee consisting of official graders from the Missouri Dept of Agriculture and USDA, then sorted into lots according to calving dates and similar body types. The offering consisted of 50 lots from 11 consignors and were due to calve from early February to April 30th. The average price per head was 2093.00, which was 303.00 higher than the November 2021 sale average. The top selling lot brought 2700.00 per head. The A.I. bred heifers brought 250.00 more than the natural bred heifers. About 40% of the heifers were black, 30% black white-face, and 30% red
