Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 6.00-12.00 higher with five-weight steers selling 20.00 higher. Demand was good on a moderate supply. The market was very active with the quality of the offering above average. The largest draft of the day was 153 head of 712 lb. steers which sold for 362.00/cwt. The USDA's Cattle on Feed Report, released Friday, reported Inventories were slightly lower, Placement were at a record low and 12 percent lower than a year ago and Marketings were 7 percent lower. The USDA announced Monday that 147 meat and poultry processing projects across 40 states are expected to receive $57.4 million through USDA's Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program (MPPEP). The funding, pending congressional allotment, will support small and medium-sized independent processors, helping expand processing capacity, increase competition and create additional marketing opportunities for livestock producers. The USDA has already awarded more than $200 million through the program to support independent meat and poultry processing businesses across the country.
