Compared to last week, yearling steers and heifers sold steady to 4.00 higher. Steer calves sold 6.00-12.00 higher with heifer calves uneven from 4.00 lower to 4.00 higher. Demand was good on a moderate supply. The offering included several loads of yearling. One stick-out offering was 129 head of 844 lb. steers that sold for 311.50, which was the 2nd highest eight-weight steers ever recorded at the barn. The USDA released the timeline for allowing Mexican cattle to enter the US supply chain, after closing the border due to the New World Screwworm. Even though Mexican cattle only account for 3 percent of the US beef supply, the cattle futures had a negative reaction and closed lower, taking away Monday's gains.
