Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 700 lbs. traded 3.00-6.00 lower in a light test of the market. Feeder calves and yearlings over 700 lbs. were not well tested however undertones were lower. Demand was moderate on a light supply. Much needed rain kept receipts light with some areas reporting in excess of 3 inches. The 5 Area Weekly Weighted Average Direct Slaughter Cattle for the week ending March 24, reported slaughter steers setting a new record weighted average price of 189.56 which was 2.09 higher than the previous week. The monthly USDA's Cattle on Feed Report released Friday, reported Inventories were up 1 percent, Placements up 10 percent and Marketings up 3 percent. Cattle futures closed lower on Monday and continued to trade sharply lower on Tuesday.
