Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold 3.00-6.00 higher with spots 10.00 higher. Steer and heifer calves were 5.00-10.00 higher with spots 15.00 higher. Demand was very good on a heavy supply. Spring-like weather along with higher prices has brought an abundance of calves to town, making up for the lighter runs in December and January. The USDA's semi-annual Cattle Inventory Report, released last week, reported the cow herd was down 2 percent which was the lowest inventory since 1951. The 2023 Calf Crop was also 2 percent lower than 2022.
