Compared to last week, slaughter cows and bulls were 5.00-8.00 lower. Demand was light on slaughter animals and moderate on replacement cattle. The supply was light as triple digit temperatures covered most of the area this week. The top slaughter bull sold for 201.00/cwt. and the top slaughter cow sold for 159.00/cwt. On the replacement side, the top bred cow sold for 3700.00/head with pairs not well tested. On the video auction, at the start of the sale, 100 head of 750 lb. replacement quality heifers sold for 2750.00-2800.00/head. Much of the area is showing the effects of insufficiant rain and extreme heat as pasture conditions have quickly deteriorated. Many creeks and ponds are below their normal levels with some completely dried up.
