Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to the last sale two weeks ago, steers and heifers sold 5.00 to 20.00 lower, with some unweaned calves 30.00 to 40.00 lower. Slaughter cows 5.00 to 10.00 higher. A couple high end consignments of yearlings highlighted the sale, seeing the least amount of decline, with the calf offering finding fewer outlets depending on health history and condition. The lower market was no surprise after the liquidation in the futures markets although in spots it would appear that the last 10 days didn't even happen. While the price levels have felt precarious for a while, the fundamentals haven't changed but the paper trade was even more fragile than many wanted to believe. Supply moderate, demand moderate to good.
