Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to the last sale three weeks ago, steers and heifers traded sharply higher. Slaughter cows 5.00 to 10.00 higher. Another wild week for the local cash trade, hot on the heels of the news of the border closing, again, to Mexican imports after screwworm reports creep closer to the US, as well as new tariffs on Brazil. It was a frantic day at the CME for cattle futures reacting to that news as well, opening sharply higher but falling back dramatically. Supply light to moderate, demand very good.
