Heifer calves under 550 lbs traded 3.00-12.00 higher with the greatest increase on the 500-550 lb weight range, heavier weights were lightly tested and sold with a steady undertone. A string of 114 steers weighing 813 lbs sold with a higher undertone to very light comparable sales. Demand was good and supply was moderate. Some packers decided to pay higher money for fats yesterday, up to 1.10/per cwt and cattle futures have been sharply higher the last two days. A hint of improvement in slaughter numbers this week has at least given some hope that we have seen the low in terms of head killed and can move forward from here. Slaughter cows sold steady.
