Compared to last week steer calves under 600 lbs sold 10.00-25.00 lower, heifer calves under 550 lbs sold 5.00-15.00 lower but the yearlings held up better and sold steady to 5.00 lower. A group of some thin fleshed steers sold a few dollars higher. Demand was moderate for the calves and good for the yearlings. Cattle futures ended last week sharply lower in anticipation of a bearish Cattle On Feed report that did indeed come back bearish with a higher than expected placement number. A few contributing factors to the higher placements are the drought, the high market and a slow slaughter pace. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 lower.
