Compared to last week, steers sold uneven, with the calves under 500 lbs selling sharply higher, but heavier weights selling 5.00-8.00 lower. However, just like last week there were instances where some thinner, fancy grazing steers sold firm. Heifers sold uneven as well, mostly from 5.00 higher to 5.00 lower with the gain on those under 575 lbs, but the calves under 400 lbs sold with a higher undertone. Demand was very good for the few true grazers left and the calves under 475 lbs, moderate to good for mid-weight calves and yearlings. There's been pressure on the market this week with the shutdown of a JBS plant in Greeley, CO due to a worker strike, but after Monday's losses the board responded well on Tuesday, gaining most of it back but it has affected the yearling market. Supply was moderate. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady.
