Compared to last week, steer calves under 650 lbs sold 3.00-8.00 higher and heifer calves traded steady with more quality calves in the offering this week. Yearlings sold steady to 6.00 higher except for some thin fleshed 7 weight cattle coming off grass that sold with a sharply higher undertone. Demand was good to very good with the grass yearlings seeing the best demand as those cattle convert the high priced grain so much more efficiently and there are very few left for the year. This time of year the price spreads can get pretty wide depending upon how the cattle are handled/flesh conditions and that was the case Tuesday although there was good demand throughout the sale. Supply was moderate to heavy. Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady.
