Compared to last week, steers and heifers sold steady to 5.00 higher. Demand was good for a moderate supply. A nice mix of yearlings and calves was offered and the quality was good. Despite the negative tone to the feeder market to start the week, due to corn breaking the $8.00/bushel mark, trade was active and buyers pushed bids on the yearlings past last week's marks knowing that overall, fundamentals for the cattle market are positive. Cow slaughter is running well above year ago levels with several areas across the country in drought and with higher prices for cows and bulls going to slaughter than the last several years, producers have been getting culls to town before turning out. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady.
