Compared to last week, steers under 650 lb sold steady to firm and heavier weights 5.00-8.00 higher. Heifers sold steady to 6.00 higher with the gain mostly on yearling heifers weighing 600-700 lbs. The quality and condition of most of the cattle was attractive and they didn't have much trouble finding new homes as trade was active and demand was good to very good. Supply was moderate and more new crop calves are showing up each week, however the majority of the feeder offering was still long weaned yearlings. Fed cattle gained a few dollars last week, boxed beef has moved higher and cattle feeders seem optimistic about where the market is headed. For farmers it's go time to get the corn planted. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady to 3.00 higher.
