Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last week, a much lighter test of feeders sold with a weak to lower undertone as cattle futures have suffered severe losses over the last few trading days. A fire at a slaughter plant in Garden City, Kansas has shut down production and has the futures markets reeling with the expectation it will give packers even more leverage to work fed prices lower, all while trade issues and an increased interest in fake meat complicate the market. Also, the recent crop report came in with production estimates larger than expected and corn prices have seen a sharp decline as well. Supply was light and demand was moderate. Slaughter cows sold mostly steady.
