Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Based on limited comparisons with last week, feeder steers and heifers steady to 5.00 higher except some heifers near 500 lbs 1.00-3.00 lower. Slaughter cows steady. Demand good. Supply light. Fairly warm day with possibly better cattle handling weather next week. Sorting and discounts seen again on some fescue haired light yearlings. The cattle market is rolling fundamentally with beef cutout values seemingly stabilizing higher and sooner than expected, the mid-year inventory finding 650k less cows and the July Cattle on Feed report showing placements at 93 percent for the second month in a row.
