Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Feeder supply not sufficient to establish a market trend. Demand uneven. Slaughter cows steady to 1.00 lower. Light run due to the recent downward trending feeder market and the current cold rains and wet conditions. Good demand seen on some nice consignments of weaned 500-600 lb steers with little interest in some of the smaller packages of lesser quality or unweaned calves. Cattle futures are attempting to stabilize and work somewhat higher so far this week following the major sell-off seen in the past two weeks. Many believe the backlog of fed cattle has largely been alleviated at this point although the industry is still hampered with high carcass weights and very high feedlot numbers.
