Reporter comment USDA

As filed

Compared to last Tuesday, feeder steers and heifers 4.00-10.00 higher. Slaughter cows 4.00-5.00 higher. Demand good. Supply moderate. Numerous consignments of good quality fall calves again this week as producers cashed in on an uptick in the market. The cattle pricing odyssey continues with cutout values in the stratosphere as processing capacity begins to very slowly come back online. Whether due to huge margins, DOJ inquiries or a desire to keep their customers afloat , packers began sharing a bit of their bounty last week filling their limited needs at various prices fully 5.00/cwt higher which turned futures north and is showing up in feeder auctions this week. Meanwhile the unpriced backlog of fed cattle will be approaching the one million head mark by weeks end.
