Compared to the last tested yearling market three weeks ago, steers and heifers sold 10.00 to 20.00 lower. This was the first day of Green City Livestock's Annual Thanksgiving Special, featuring yearlings on Tuesday and calves on Friday. Cattle on Tuesday were offered mostly in load lots from reputation backgrounders with all the work done. Quality was outstanding throughout the day with steers greatly outnumbering the heifers. The cattle sector has certainly taken a hit the past several weeks with the packer gaining quite a bit of margin back and producers wondering if the law of supply and demand no longer applies. Buyers still need to own cattle but at reduced price levels; empty pens don't make money but last week's prices sure don't pencil out today. The bulk of the cattle went to just a handful of buyers. Worth noting: when compared to the 2024 Thanksgiving Yearling Sale, 2025 yearlings are still trading roughly 55.00 to 80.00/cwt higher than a year ago. Supply moderate, demand moderate to good.
