Wednesday was the second day of a two day Customer Appreciation BBQ Sale at Green City Livestock featuring load lot yearlings on Monday and home raised calves on Wednesday. Compared to the last sale four weeks ago, steers sold mostly 5.00 to 10.00 higher, spots up to 15.00 higher. Heifers sold 10.00 to 20.00 higher. The market picked up Wednesday morning right where it left off Monday with no warm up needed. The sale order was stacked with reputation consignments, nearly all long time weaned and in good summer condition. Cattle were offered in mostly smaller groups this time around but with enough numbers and similar kind for buyers to work with. A couple of the newer faces in the crowd were quite active throughout the day, pushing prices higher, particularly on the light calves under 550 lbs. Overall a smaller total head count across the two day sale when compared to 2023, but by this time last year conditions were very dry and pastures were already critically short, forcing many producers to market this stock earlier than normal. In most parts of the trade area this year, pastures are still in great shape and the hay crop by all reports is excellent. Supply moderate, demand very good.
