Compared to last week, steer and heifer calves under 600 lbs all sold with a firm to higher undertone compared to last week's light offering of calves as bulk of receipts weighted over 600 lbs, yearling steers weighing 800-900 lbs sold firm to 5.00 higher. Heifers weighing over 600 lbs were lightly tested. Demand was good on a moderate offering. Calf market remains best on long timed weaned good quality calves with shots still trade at a premium with several offerings short weaned or under 45 days. Feeder Cattle futures started the week with sharp gains with the front three months up 3.57 to 8.97 with January on out all up the 9.25 limit. Friday's Cattle on Feed report contained no surprises and closely tracked pre-report estimates with On Feed at 98.9 percent, Placements at 90.1 percent and Marketings at 86.4 percent. Stick out sales included 37 hd of steers 509 lbs at 485.00, pot load steers 807 lbs at 365.75, 120 hd steers 875 lbs at 359.25 and 60 hd steers 873 lbs at 358.25. Slaughter cows sold steady to 3.00 lower.
