Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 400-450 lbs sold mostly 10.00-15.00 higher with 450-500 lbs selling fully steady to firm, 500-550 lbs sold firm to 5.00 higher with 550-600 lbs trading 5.00-10.00 higher, 600-650 lbs were lightly tested with 650-700 lbs were mostly calves and not well tested with last week's yearling offering, three pot loads of 790 to 985 lbs sold with a firm to higher undertone. Feeder heifers weighing 400-600 lbs sold 5.00-10.00 higher with a pot load of top quality heifers weighing 616 lbs selling with a higher undertone. Demand was good on a moderate supply with a nice quality offering of steer and heifer calves weighing 400-600 lbs selling on and active market. Several stick out sales include a pot load of 790 lb steers at 257.75, pot load of 811 lb steers at 254.60 and a pot load of 616 lb heifers at 276.25. CME Cattle futures started the week on a strong note after Friday's Cattle on Feed Report was encouraging with Placements 12 percent below last year at 88 percent with Live Cattle having triple digit gains April thru December up 2.35 to 3.20 and Feeder Cattle May thru November up 3.17 to 4.97. Slaughter cows sold 3.00-5.00 lower.
