Compared to last week, steer calves weighing 500-600 lbs sold unevenly steady, with 600-750 lbs selling firm to 4.00 higher with the most advance over 650 lbs, over 900 lbs were not well tested. Feeder heifers weighing 450-500 lbs sold steady, with 500-600 lbs trading steady to spots 4.00 higher on the 550-600 lb heifers, 600-650 lbs sold 3.00-8.00 higher and 650-700 lbs sold with a higher undertone. Demand was moderate to good on a moderate offering with overall quality very good on steer and heifer calves weighing 500-700 lbs and especially the 600-700 lb heifers with several pot loads and part load consignments selling with good demand. Feeder calf market held up very well after several weeks were price trends here at Callaway have been very wide with the CME cattle futures being very volatile and the one thing markets loathe is uncertainty. CME cattle futures for once started the week with triple digit gains with Feeder Cattle contracts closing 2.52-2.80 higher on the front three months and Live cattle up 1.52-2.20 on the front three months. Slaughter cows, boning and breaking cows sold mostly 5.00-12.00 lower with lean cows trading mostly steady.
